Summer Theater
Want a great way to improve your skills and meet other artists? Do summer theater! The more variety of theater you participate in, the more people you'll meet, the more skills you'll learn, and the more you'll see the wide variety there is in the theatrical arts! Here I've listed a small sampling of workshops and camps you might want to check out.
- Zach Performing Arts School
- US Performing Arts Camp at UT
- US Perfomrming Arts Camp (main site)
- Second Youth Theater Summer Classes
- Vortex Summer Youth Theatre
- Texas Shakespeare Festival
I have never been dissappoited when going to Zach Scott. They have youth productions going on all summer, but I highly recommend you take a look at the Summer Intensives.
Every year the US Performing Arts Camp selects different universities around the country to host theater workshops. This year, UT Austin has been selected as one of the hosts. This camp is awesome because it not only has acting session, but technical theater sessions as well!
There's the main website for more information, or in case you feel like going farther away! This is a great opportunity to check out some fantastic colleges around the nation, including UCLA, Oberlin, UConn, and George Washington U. Also includes a program at New York's exciting NDG Studios.
In conjunction with UT Theater and Dance, Second Youth puts on a production every year with students age 12-16.
Every year, the Vortex Theater auditions a summer play for high schoolers and professional actors to put on together. For more information, ask Romeo - he was a part of last year's production!
This one is at Kilgore College in Kilgore (east Texas). I've heard great things about their Shakespeare, and they have an absolutely fantastic season this summer. Click on "Workshop Series" for more information about their Acting and Stage Combat camps.
